Catholic School Principal To Students: Thou Shalt Not Blog
Yea before you wonder what the hell the title means and eyebrows start raisin,i'm gonna get to the chase.
So basically students are expelled for stuff like — wearing "objectionable" T-shirts, cross-dressing for prom, planning elaborate senior pranks — but a principal at a Catholic high school in Sparta, New Jersey, has added another offense to the list: having a blog.
I know right...how weird is that?? What the high school principla care what the students do?
The Reverend Kieran McHugh stunned the 900 students of the private Pope John XXIII Regional High School at a recent assembly when he told them that, effective immediately, they would have to dismantle their personal pages on sites such as MySpace.com and Xanga.com and any other blogs, or face suspension.

Still don't have a clue why they don't want their students to blog do you?Don't worry the principal isn't on crack...they actually have a pretty reasonable reason!
The reason for taking this unusual measure was to protect students from online sexual predators in cyberspace that track down personal information on children through their diaries and pictures includin gossip.
Even though the reason makes sense...the students are but obviously feelin violated and deprived of their private home lives.
Whats your say on the matter?

YEYYYY!!!
ME first!!!
Oh yeah....
Few years back chat rooms were also blocked for teh same reason. Im not sure if Yahoo Chat rooms still exist or not..but they were suppose to close down online public chat rooms coz of many incidents on minors.
I rememebr ISP's of middle east blocking down Yahoo Chat + Profile view when I Was in Dubai...n I think its a pretty good move too.
Blogging..hmmm..
Its a pretty harsh though...
but...who knows, it might be used for some wrong reasons tooo..
Right Mich??
Damn, I missed system of a down post :(
:(:(
Me commenting there now :P
Happy Diwali and happy blogging in advance...heheeh
Greetz!!
*thumbs up for bein first* :)
oh! i din kno bout da yahoo thing...hmmm...but u know tht wuz a good move cuz in these yahoo chatrooms all ppl do iz abuse...so thtz juz stupid i mean yet anotha means of removin their frustrations(CAN A CERTAIN MUSIC-CRITIC HEAR ME???)
yea in a way like i said...they r only doin it for the childrens' good...so its a pretty noble reason i guess lol
;)
happy diwali to u too!!
The principal has a valid reason, however they can't stop the students forever.
If they stop students from blogging they might as well stop them from chatting(Yahoo, msn or any other chat sites) coz personal information can also be tracked using these.
As for sex, its everywhere nowadays, I mean you goto the beach and you see people having sex, you watch it on TV.
I think rapes aren't done online are they? they didn't exactly use the net for that did they?
Mee sallll thank god you dont goto that school, or I could've never have met you :p
Princi might feel good for some time and its a nice way to keep a check on kids but I dont think these restrictions gonna last for too long. Kids are bound to do what they want with or without restrictions.
PS_ Pls change that ephemeral radiance back to dewdrop. I transpired long back :)
@ ro-hot - yea i know eventually the students will end up doin wot they wanna...takein an average kid's mentality into consideration...they usually end up doin wat they are not s'posed to do lol
nah dunno if rapes n all can b done online lol????!!! but the person can b tracked down via chat or blog or netin
lolz...even if i went to dat skool i wudn stop bloggin :p
@ dewd - yea it wont...like those kids r gna lissen!! n yes glad to kno ur bak to bein dewdrop (dewd for me :) lol ;) ill change it
I don't think that was a good thing to do. I strongly object to such decisions which arrests a person's fundamental right.
its not right 8(
there r always pros n cons about anything ...just like everycoin has 2 sides ... may be wen u try n get into the cyber world u just now the pros u come to hit the cons later n then may be realise y u even got into it ...
hmmm
thats it ..
catch u later mich baby....
hugggzzzzzz
have a nice day
uttara
michhhhhhhhh hi sweety
nice one here... i dont think this is going to deter he kids from blogging... they'll just blog anonymously... grrrr n u know how we 00nies hate anonymous...
hmm but the principals got a valid reason... but ithink a better appraoch would b to teach the kids abt the pros n cons of blogging... n advice tehm not to post pics n personal details...
nyway got to rush now laterrrzzzzzzz bye
@ sushir - hola! long time no c! true...especially of kids...they will get all the more rebellious if their privacy iz violated n if they r told wat to do...but i think its a pretty thoughtful step taken by the principal in order to warn the children of what is out there
@ itachi - yea...in a way it isnt:(
@ oo taa raa - yes very true :) hugzzz
@ m000nie - awww...wer u been :( yep tht wud definitely make more sense :)
rock out~!
I don't think its gonna make any difference...
Well...holdin them bak frm bloggin aint the ryt thin...
Wat shudv been done wuz sumthyn lik educate em n tel em abt the evils on the net...ask them not to reveal personal info n stuff...
Makin such a rule wud only motivate em students to break em....
@ south - well...surprisingly it has...no students have been expelled yet...which means they hav actually been obeyin!
@ slug - well...i guess alla them kno already bout da 'evils' like u said...nuthinz gna stop em frm doin wat they wanna n tellin em wat ta do will motivate em to do wat they want
How @ chatting ?
is that too a blasphemy?
apart frm the stated reason, there can b many more plausible reasons
1. It's an addiction. Once u suck it up, it just doesnt let u free.
2. it means u spend time reading looong pages (which by n large offer nothing worthwhile) online, so ur eyes r at stake, especially if u r a kid, it's no good to stare the glare.
3. By n large blogging turns into 'blogging for fun'. Better is u subsribe to Calvin/Dilbert/Surd jokes to find the same humor.
4. For anything worthwhile, there is 'google', n news websites.
5. Another common objective is 'blogging to make friends'. Clearly blogging isnt meant for this.
6. It scrounges a hell lotta time from ur calendar which can b put to better use.
Whoa !! thinking of puting these in a post n publish on my bloggy :D
"thou shalt not blog and why"
Can u add more ?
thou shall not blog ???
hey tell that principal to get the hell out !
lol IV - well...good nuff reasons for why they cant blog...thr r good reasons for why one shud blog tho... :)
1. It's an addiction. Once u suck it up, it just doesnt let u free.
this is definitely da most obvious reason...i mean i bet 90% of da ppl spend time ova da internet cuzza tht...im included!
dun agree wid number 2 tho cuz well...u hav a choice u dont hafta read those looooong pages
like i said...thr r much betta things to do...but wen sumtin bcomes an addiction,u cant help but do it.
@ dreamz - :)
m all ears to know the reasons
'why one shud blog'
I can for the sake of it, list a few, but wud b interesting to get them from you.
Wot say?
gvi'll tell u the reason why i wanna/am bloggin
its cuz i wanna share my views wid other ppl and hear wat they hafta say...i wanna c wat they think of wat i wrote or wat i think
thtz my reason for bloggin
so neitha m i bloggin for frnds (altho i made a lot in the process n they r really cool ppl :)
neitha m bloggin cuz ppl shud find me funny
neitha m i bloggin cuz ppl r aware o wat iz goin on in da world
i hav my opinions.this is one of da ways thru which m voicin em
thats whY I'M bloggin.
and also cuz as i mentioned above...its got me hooked :)
Wish you a happy Diwali.
@ pithaly- a very happy diwali to you too
@ raj - yea...either way i doubt if it'll work...thanx...do drop by again
wow .. thts quite 'reasonable reason' :)
'personal rant space' n a 'discussion forum at disposal'.
thts one of the reasons for origin of blogs.
and to clarify,
blogging for fun doesnt mean 'neitha m bloggin cuz ppl shud find me funny'
by n large ppl try to find a smile thru the workload n busy life. So some blogs u wud find, tilted towards fun side of the world where such agrieved souls find respite.
hav a nice weekend :)
i meant bout ur mention bout Better is u subsribe to Calvin/Dilbert/Surd jokes to find the same humor
hope u hav a nice week end too
hey dear
tats a cool post
princi cant put restrictions for ever... and more the restrictions... more the students will be inclined to do such things...
but princi do have some valid reasons... its easy for students of that age to get distracted...
yep...true :)
blogging and chating..kind of subjective, don't you think?
when there is a will, there is will..if the students wants to blog, they will do it anyway..i don't think high school's rules going to stop them..
yet, a person should be solely responsible for his or her actions..hope the students realise that..
muuuaxx and hugsss
=am000nie=
yep amu da principal shud prolly tell em tht
thats weird.... strange principal!!! maybe hez aged ....lol
st000nie
They can warn the students but not stop. Infact, this way the students gonna get even more lured...u know wut effect the word 'sex' has....
But it indeed was quite surprising!
rock on rocksta!
@ st000nie - lolz...na i think they juz tryna take proper precautions o waeva hehehe
@ cheez - well...lol...yea...if they warn da students i doubt if da students wud even care man...in fact they wud juz end up doin watever they want (as usual)
rock out !! ;)
this is really stupid. that yells!
though our eng college has violations like not to speak with opposite sex, strict dress code and some more.
but intrusion of privacy is stupid.
"Students at Pope John XIII, a Catholic high school, were told to take down their blogs from sites like Xanga and MySpace or face suspension. Rev. Kieran McHugh, the school's principal, said that he was trying to protect students from online predators.
fortunately nowadays if they close one door another has definitely been opened,so it is ridiculous to close even that door.
@ exasperater - ur not allowed to speak wid da opposite sex?? jeez...tht must suck!! lol yea it iz...this topic has both reasons for why da princi did it and why he shouldnt so it all depends on an individualz opinion.
@ pithaly - yes this is got frm mtv news.
@ ms - lolz :)
Hiyya Mich :)
Waaaaaaaaat some Principal gone mental or what?? I do see the point too but it's far too insiginificant when it comes to cyber abuse. Cos if a predator wants to get pics etc there are heaps of ways to do that...and through blogs duhhh! Well u can still have a blog and not put up too personal stuff cant u? One can be a victim of any predator irrelevant of having a blog or not...it all depends on ur brains :)
Keshi.
@ da so called 'cyberpolice'
we dun need u to go arnd snoopin into otha pplz business.if u hav nuthin to do,(it clearly shows tht u dont) GET A LIFE.
thanx for showin ur concern...dunno bout others but i certainly do not need ur services
So alright now buh bye then.
@ keshi - yep that iz true
p.s @ cheesy n pithaly if y'all saw wat dat loser wrote...sorry tht won happen again.he'll wish he neva came here if he does it again
People who are against blogging should be thrashed once to make them get out of their misery so that they dont ever stop us again.
Peace,
Firacub.
@ fira - u said it!
